As a total novice, Kim has made me feel that Yoga is something that I can do! Her Back to Basics course is completely inclusive and moves a pace that suits everyone. Each week presents a new challenge and I am always surprised by own ability to do things and feel she is instilling new confidence and connection to my body in every session. I would recommend her classes to everyone as I leave each class feeling renewed, inspired and looking forward to the next.     – Ali

Budokon Yoga Basics: 4-Week Introductory Course

Budokon is a mind and body art form inspired by the ancient traditions of Yoga, Martial Arts, Zen Meditation and the study of animal movement. Budokon (bu-do-kon) translates directly in Japanese as (Bu) warrior, (Do) way, (Kon) spirit or way of the spiritual warrior. If you love power or vinyasa flow yoga and want to see their evolutionary potential, this is the course for you! In this introductory course, we will cover the fundamental techniques that comprise the system at a slow and steady pace. The focus of this class is slowing down within a dynamic flowing sequence of postures and transitions, cultivating core strength, balance and mental focus. The course is best suited for any students new to Budokon with some previous yoga experience. Those completely new to yoga are welcome to join, however students may find it more beneficial to first join Back to Basics (see below), Basics Flow, or Weekend Warrior Flow (see schedule) classes first. Those with any martial arts experience are welcome to join as well. Budokon has the potential to complement any practice and elevate it to the next level.

Course structure:

  • Week 1: Introduction to Budokon, core techniques and transitions
  • Week 2: Review of core techniques and transitions, rolling series, floating and inversions tutorial
  • Week 3: Short flow sequence, Martial techniques and transitions, animal locomotion and evolution
  • Week 4: Budokon Yoga Flow – a typical class that reviews yogic, martial and animal techniques learned

Upon completion of the course, students will have the experience, confidence and knowledge to join any Budokon Yoga or Vinyasa Flow all-levels class.
